For the Children
The four rooms devoted to our children upstairs in our Educational Building are a veritable Christian Wonderland. Rolling hills, blue skies, and Disney and Pooh characters beckon our preschoolers to their special space. Our elementary school-aged kids rotate between a garden-green, ivy-hung, animal-surrounding paradise that is the “How Great Thou Art” arts and crafts room, the deep blue comforts of “Holyword,” our Media Room, with its big-screen DVD player and bean-bags scattered about, and our “Temple Mount,” a theater/staging room decorated as a New Testament era agora.
Different teachers in four-week units lead the children through various bible topics by utilizing arts and crafts, drama/story-telling, watching videos, cooking, gardening, games, and anything else we can dream up to heighten their experience.
For Adults
There are three groups of us. Our Women’s Class is a long-standing (okay, long sitting) class of ladies who mine the depths of our denominational curriculum, led by one of the great Sunday School Teachers of all time, the incomparably devoted and practical, wizened and witty, Esther Gray.
Their counterparts, the Men’s Class is a priceless group of guys who meet around a couple of tables near the coffee pot in the Fellowship Hall, carrying on, by far, the liveliest discussions in the church. They rotate leadership of topics amongst themselves, and, though they, too, use a study guide and seasonal books, they are not averse to getting off the biblical subject at hand in order to explore and debate politics, economics, current news items, or just about any other subject of note on their minds.
Then there is the always intriguing Shurley Class. Led by our minister, they are adults of all ages, who have no trouble and few qualms about expressing themselves in response to whatever subject matter he comes up with, which changes from month to month, if not week to week, as it occurs to him.
